Entrepreneurs think that the most important element for attracting investments is the idea - it's not. For early-stage investments, the emphasis is on the strength of the entrepreneurs. Are they smart, tenacious, bright, and able to recognize opportunities and pivot when necessary?

An investor, an entrepreneur and a capacity provider speak about the most important characteristics of an entrepreneur that determine whether they will succeed in due diligence on their road to investments.

Simone Pisu is a marine biologist turned social entrepreneur. Growing up near the oceans led him to a career in marine research that eventually exposed the challenges small-scale fishing communities face in accessing dignified incomes for their work. Simone co-founded Sustainable Fishery Trade, and through the NESsT due diligence process, he and our teams uncovered that he had the core competencies to lead the enterprise.

Nicole Etchart, Founder at NESsT, faces the tough decision of selecting the social enterprises that will receive capital and business mentoring support as part of the NESsT portfolio. How does Nicole determine which social enterprises should proceed to due diligence and be considered for investment?

About the Webinar Series

In this episode, we talk about the competencies that we assess to determine whether an entrepreneur has the ability to successfully run an enterprise.
